Barriers Of Communication

Barriers Of General Communication

Problems with Technology

Technology is quite a large barrier in terms of general communication as there is usually some faults with some technology, for example if you are using a laptop or note book etc instead of a PC the piece of technology could run out of battery on you.
If you do not have internet connection on your PC then you have a few problems because you cannot communicate with other people over the Computer without internet connection. You cannot communicate with others if you don’t have internet connection and be able to use different websites on the internet, for example Skype, Facebook, Outlook etc.

Language Used

Language can also be a barrier in general communication because when you are talking to an audience and you use different terms they are not sure of they will not be able to understand what you are talking about and this may make them become bored and pay no attention to what you are saying. Technical terms is another barrier for general communication as the audience you are speaking out to may not speak or understand the language you are talking and this will also lack attention.

Interpersonal Communication Barriers

Body Language Barriers

Body Language is also a barrier because when you are talking to your audience with a bad body language, for example leaning on something or standing still while you are talking the audience will realise that you do not care about what you are saying and you just want it to be finished and they will become less interested and will not listen or understand what you are saying.

Also if you are staring at the one person the whole time when you are talking they will feel uncomfortable and may not be concentrating on what you are saying etc. Pointing at people or making hand gestures is also a barrier as if you point at someone they will also feel uncomfortable and will think you are talking about them etc.

If you show to the audience that you are nervous and don’t want to be talking to them they will realise that you don’t want to be talking which will make them not want to listen because you are nervous and you are mixing up your words etc and they will lose concentration.

Written Communication Barriers

Written Communication barriers are very common barriers as if you use different text style in the same document this will confuse the reader. Bad grammar is a huge barrier as if you have made spelling mistakes once you have sent an email or letter to another organisation or staff they could become confused and not be able to understand what you are trying to say to them. Bad hand writing is a huge barrier because if you write a letter to another company and you have unreadable writing they will not be able to read it and will not be able to do what you are trying to get them to do or will not know what you are trying to say to them.
